Tuckahoe Lodge #386 Dance Team
The Tuckahoe Lodge 386 Dance Team is comprised of youth and young adult members of the Boy Scouts, age 12 to 21, that are members of the Order of the Arrow.
The dance team was re-established in the fall of 1998. We started out with 1 drummer and 3 dancers and have slowly grown to currently have 10 dancers and 2 drummers.
We perform several time a year at Cub Scout "Blue & Gold Banquets", Boy Scout troop meetings, Order of the Arrow Ordeal weekends, weekly at Camp Tuckahoe on Friday evenings during the summer camp program and annually at the NE4C Conclave. We even had one dancer compete at the 2000 NOAC as a traditional dancer.
We are also involved in several Native American Powwows each year, including the "First Nation's Spring Festival" held annually at Sam Lewis S.P. in Wrightsville, Pa and the annual gathering at Gettysburg Collage.
The boys on the team are also active members of their local Boy Scout Troops and Venture Crews.
We celebrate the Native American culture with reverance and respect. We take what we do very seriously. We learn not just how to dance, but the reason and story behind the dances. We feel that the way of the People has been taken for granted and copied without respect for many eons. We hope that through our performances, we can not only entertain, but educate the public on at least a small aspect of the life of the Native American Indian.
